New York Pops principal harpist Anna Reinersman shared with us some songs that help her get her day off to a great start. You can listen to her playlist here and read her thoughts on her selections below!
Song: “Appalachian Spring” (Aaron Copland)
Performers: Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, Leonard Bernstein
Album: Copland: Appalachian Spring
“One of my all-time favorites. The orchestration beautifully evokes wide open spaces. Most people know the Shaker tune that ends the piece, but my favorite part is at about 3:53, when the strings are bouncing all over the place while the brass play a gorgeous, elegant, calm theme. Perfection.”
Song: “She Loves Me” from She Loves Me (Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick)
Performer: Zachary Levi
Album: She Loves Me (2016 Broadway Cast Recording)
“This light and frothy number is full of hope and potential. The moment when our hero discovers our heroine loves him, although she doesn't know it yet. Anything is possible in a Broadway musical.”
Song: “You Make Me Feel So Young”
Performer: Frank Sinatra
Album: Songs for Swingin' Lovers!
“I dare you not to dance along to Nelson Riddle's jaunty, genius orchestrations. I used to dance my kids around to this all the time. We still do.”
Song: “Half Acre”
Performers: Hem
Album: Rabbit Songs
“I find the beauty in this gem of a song comforting. Sally's warm voice soothes an aching heart.”
Song: “The Raiders March” from Raiders of the Lost Ark (John Williams)
Performers: London Symphony Orchestra, Gavin Greenaway
Album: John Williams: A Life in Music
“The ultimate ‘get up and go get 'em’ anthem. Nobody does inspirational orchestra like John Williams.”
