Katherine Fink is an original member of the New York Pops. She maintains a distinctive and versatile career which includes solo, chamber music, orchestral, teaching and commercial genres.
Nationally recognized for her performance, teaching and recording, Fink earned a Grammy Award nomination with the Borealis Wind Quintet. Her recordings include five cds with the Borealis Wind Quintet, solo albums of music of Philip Wharton and Robert Baksa, the many recordings of The New York Pops, Brooklyn Philharmonic, and radio and HD movie broadcasts with the Metropolitan Opera.
As featured soloist, Fink has appeared at Carnegie Hall, at Lincoln Center in the Avery Fisher and Alice Tully Halls, at the Brooklyn Academy of Music and on both the Brooklyn Library and Brooklyn Museum series. With the Borealis Wind Quintet she has performed throughout the country and has performed in recital and presented lecture/discussions at the National Flute Association conventions and in New York City at New York Flute Club concerts.
Fink is a prominent orchestral player in the New York area. She is principal flute and featured soloist with the Queens Symphony and The New York Pops, a long time principal flute with the Brooklyn Philharmonic and extra with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. She has played on many major film scores and television commercials and has performed in live concerts, television broadcasts and on tour with numerous popular icons including Yasin Bey (Mos Def), Andrea Bocelli, Chris Botti, Darlene Love, Barry Manilow, Liza Minnelli, Milton Nascimento, Pink Martini, Doc Severinsen, The Grateful Dead and Leslie Uggams.
Fink also maintains a strong presence in the Broadway music scene. She is a member of the upcoming production of Bernstein’s On the Town, is currently playing Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella, and was a member of recent past hits, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess and the Tony Award-winning revival of Ragtime (including cast albums).
An experienced educator, Fink has given master classes in flute performance, chamber music and orchestral repertoire throughout the U.S. and at the prestigious Verbier Festival in Switzerland. She is on the faculty of New Jersey City University and CUNY York College.
With the Borealis Wind Quintet, Fink has commissioned works by Bob Brookmeyer, Eric Ewazen and Philip Wharton, and has been gifted commissions by many composers including Pulitzer Prize winner Paul Moravec. The Cimarron Press library features “Borealis Select Editions,” including new works and revised editions of standard repertoire.
Fink holds a B.M.degree with honors from the Eastman School of Music, where she worked closely with Samuel Baron and Joseph Mariano and a Master’s degree from SUNY/Stony Brook. She is a Haynes Artist, having played Haynes flutes exclusively throughout her career.
