Above and beyond our established programs
the New York Pops is willing to accommodate, to the
best of our ability, requests for "special"
educational assistance. The two highlighted events are
among our most interesting and fulfilling.

For four years, The New York Pops has brought music education programs to PS 347, The American Sign Language and English Lower School in Manhattan. Our teaching artists work with hearing, hearing-impaired, and deaf students as they learn about musical concepts and compose original music.
On February 9, 2007, The New York Pops teamed up with Signing Time to bring a professional development workshop to our teaching artists and also to provide schools, teachers, parents, and families with a series of free performances. This full-day event included two morning performances at PS 347, afternoon shows in the Kaplan Space at Carnegie Hall, and an invitation to sit in on a New York Pops open rehearsal in Stern Auditorium that afternoon. Hundreds of children and their parents participated in this special day.
PS 811Q – MARATHON SCHOOL EXPERIENCES THE NEW YORK POPS
The New York Pops has been bringing thousands of school children to Carnegie Hall through the Kids in the Balcony program, free of charge, for over fifteen years. When Barbara Tetenbaum, music teacher at PS 811Q, heard about the program, she wished her students could participate. PS 811Q – Marathon School includes children who face many challenges including severe physical disabilities, intellectual delays, language delays, visual and/or hearing impairments, medical fragility, emotional disorders and/or autism. She wrote to us in 2006: “Because of the location of our school and the physical needs of our students it is very hard for us to bring them to programs - we therefore try to bring programs to them.”
In November 2006 and August 2007, The New York Pops teaching artists gave free performances to the wonderful kids at PS 811Q.
